In the first practice session of the 2024 MotoGP season in Qatar, Jorge Martin, the 2023 runner-up, initially led the way, but rookie Pedro Acosta caught the attention by showcasing his skills on the track. Despite briefly taking the lead, Acosta claimed the third spot, impressing with his agility and control on the bike. The session also captured the excitement of Marquez’s first non-Honda race weekend, finishing in fourth place on his Ducati. The top four positions were all held by Spanish riders, with Aleix Espargaro following closely behind Martin. Notably, Yamaha failed to break into the top 10, while newcomer Trackhouse secured 12th and 14th places with their Aprilia riders. Franco Morbidelli returned to the Ducati MotoGP bike and finished 22nd in his first outing after missing the pre-season.
